Cervical Neck Pain

Neck pain can be due to injury to the soft tissues of the neck, usually tendons, ligaments and muscles. Cervical pain refers to pain in the upper part of the back and neck.

One cause of neck pain is whiplash, a nonmedical term associated with neck pain that typically occurs due to an abnormal movement or force outside of the neck's range of motion. Whiplash most commonly occurs from car accidents, falls, assault, and sporting activities. Whiplash is also referred to as a cervical sprain or strain, or a hyperextension injury.

Common symptoms of neck pain and/or whiplash include neck swelling, tenderness, headache, muscle spasms, shooting pain, and difficulty moving the neck in it's normal range of motion.
