Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain is caused by overuse, injury or strain to the muscles, ligaments and discs that support the spine. Lower back pain is a simple symptom of a complex problem that tends to get worse because of the existing tension that becomes susceptible to additional injury. Certain causes of lower back pain also include herniated discs, age, arthritis, scoliosis, tumors, infections, and abnormal bone growths and deformities.

Lower back pain can be described as a dull, burning or sharp pain and can be localized or spread out over an entire area. It can be accompanied by muscle spasms or stiffness and can also cause the legs to tingle, feel numb, or ache.

Lumbar back pain refers to lower back pain, also known as lumbago. Back pain can be caused by a number of factors including arthritis, trauma/injury, disc deterioration, or mechanical stress against a joint. This pain may be acute (episodic), recurring, or chronic.

Lower back pain typically results from musculoskeletal problems, due to soft tissue or muscle sprain or strain.
