Spinal Cord Implants
Spinal Neurostimulation Therapy
Spinal cord stimulation is used to treat and manage chronic pain of the back and legs through a therapeutic approach. An implantable device, similar to a pacemaker, interrupts pain signals before they reach the brain.
The stimulator is placed under the skin and delivers mild electric impulses to the brain. Rather than feeling pain, patients feel a tingling sensation in the areas where the pain is typically felt. Patients are able to control the amount of neurostimulation transmitted based on their level of pain.
Patients who have undergone spinal cord stimulation therapy have experienced significantly less back and leg pain, require less oral medication, and less side effects.
Patients suffering from conditions such as Failed Back Syndrome (FBS), post-laminectomy pain, radicular pain syndrome, multiple back operations, Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD), herniated disc, peripheral causalgia, epidural fibrosis, unsuccessful disk surgery, Complex Regional Pain Syndrom (CRPS), or Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) may benefit from spinal cord stimulation therapy.
